Bibb County is located in central Georgia, with the city of Macon serving as both the county seat and the heart of the consolidated Macon-Bibb County government. The county is part of the Macon Judicial Circuit, which also encompasses Crawford and Peach Counties. Bibb County’s court system includes six trial-level courts — the Superior Court, State Court, Juvenile Court, Probate Court, Civil and Magistrate Court, and Municipal Court — each maintaining its own category of case records across criminal, civil, family, and probate matters. These records are generated in the course of litigation and include complaints, motions, orders, judgments, transcripts, and sentencing documents, all housed at various offices within and near the J. Taylor Phillips Courthouse at 601 Mulberry Street in Macon.
For anyone in Georgia seeking court case information, several official resources exist to facilitate searches. Clerk offices at each court maintain physical records and respond to in-person and mail inquiries, while online tools managed by the county and the state provide remote search capabilities. GeorgiaStateCourts.us can serve as a reference point for understanding Georgia’s judicial structure and locating court contact information statewide. At the county level, specialized search portals — including the reSearchGA platform for Superior Court filings and the State Court’s docket search — allow individuals to locate specific case records without visiting the courthouse. The sections below detail how to navigate each of these resources for every major category of court record.
How to Look Up a Court Case in Bibb County?
Determining which court handled a case is the essential first step. Felonies, divorces, land disputes, and equity cases go through the Superior Court. Misdemeanors, traffic violations, and certain civil actions are heard in State Court. Civil claims of $15,000 or less and warrant applications are handled by the Magistrate Court. The Probate Court manages estate, guardianship, and licensing matters. City ordinance violations and minor infractions are resolved in Municipal Court, and all matters involving minors fall under Juvenile Court jurisdiction.

Are Court Records Public in Bibb County?
Georgia law strongly favors public access to government records. The Georgia Open Records Act (O.C.G.A. §§ 50-18-70 through 50-18-77) establishes the right of any person to inspect and copy public records maintained by government agencies. While this statute applies broadly to executive-branch agencies, Georgia courts have also recognized a public right of access to judicial records, subject to restrictions imposed by law or court order.
Records that are restricted or exempt from public access in Bibb County include:
- Juvenile court records (confidential under Title 15, Chapter 11 of the O.C.G.A.)

- Pending investigation and prosecution records
- Documents containing sensitive personal identifiers such as Social Security numbers
Certain family law records, including paternity cases (except final orders) and guardianship records, may also carry access restrictions. The State Court of Bibb County has noted that the judicial branch is not encompassed within the Open Records Act’s definition of “agency” under the holding in Fathers Are Parents Too, Inc. v. Hunstein, 202 Ga. App. 716 (1992). In practice, however, most case filings across Bibb County courts are available to the public through the clerk’s offices and online portals described above, unless a specific statutory exemption or court order applies.
